Hi, finally got the net at home so hopefully i can resolve thi
problem.
My idiot of a former housemate did something to my laptop which mean
that WMP cannot play or copy cds. It can read them however - it know
how many tracks etc.
It plays on Real player but that doesn't have as many features as WM
and I'm trying to compile a play list.
Basically he spilled cola on HIS laptop and broke his cd drive so h
kept on using mine when i didn't know about it. He downloaded music a
the Uni library, put it onto cd, then put the files from the cd onto m
laptop and finally transferred them to an exterior hard drive ready t
go onto his laptop.
The last time he did this he really screwed it up!
When I put a cd into the drive, it comes up with a message saying
"Windows Media Player encountered an error when reading the CD-RO
drive in digital mode, click ok to switch to analog. Click cancel t
retry playing in digital mode (which justs brings up the sam
message)."
When I click ok it comes up with another message saying basically th
same thing but has a "more information" button to click.
When I click this it says
"To switch to digital CD playback
On the Tools menu, click Options, and then click the Devices tab.
Double-click the CD-ROM drive, and then in the Playback area, clic
Digital."
When I try to do this, the CD-ROM drive flickers on and off in th
merest fraction of a second and so I cannot change the settings in it.
I really don't know what to do
I've tried reinstalling it but that doesn't work.
Any suggestions would be great,
David
p.s. I thought maybe if i completely removed WMP and then trie
installing it again, it might help but I don't know how to remove it
It doesn't appear in add/remove software
