WMP launching on start up

After accepting an update from windows media player it
now opens at start up. Someone on this board told me to
run Adaware to clean the malware that was launching it.
Adware was not able to do this. My firewall says it is
trying to communicate with windowsmedia.com ( msn's
portal for windows media player). So it is most likely
Microsoft that is launching the player at start up. How
do I stop this from happening?

Microsoft nor WMP has any settings to make WMP start with your system,
expect for your Windows Start-up folder. If a shortcut does not appear in
the folder, your problem is due to malware/spyware on your system.

WMP is trying to get to windowsmedia.com likely because you have WMP set to
start in the Media Guide. The Media Guide=windowsmedia.com. Disable that
option in the player and it will not be a "problem" for you, but your big
problem is due to third party software on your system.
