Mike M.

Windows 2000 and Windows XP, PowerPoint 2002, WMP 9.0.
I insert a Windows Media Player object (ActiveX control) on a PowerPoint
slide. I select the object, right click and choose properties. On the
properties window I select Custom, find the File Name or url text box and
input the file. I show the presentation fine. However, with the file in
the same directory as the presentation, I want to set the path to be
relative (.\filename). With a relative path the WMP control prepends the
users home path to the .\filename and the video does not play.

I use this method for Insert->Movies from file and it works fine so I assume
it is the poor controls fault. I've messed around with the Base URL setting
on the controls properties and such to no avail (just travail).

Is there a way to use relative paths with WMP control?

Dear Aunt Mike,

What about just the filename as opposed to .\filename?

FWIW, while you can do this with file links (images, sounds, movies), you can't
do relative paths with OLE links either. Gotsta be full paths.
