I know shuffle sucked in WMP 9. And I know there are aftermarket plugins
that are designed to offer more robust shuffling features.
But seriously now, WMP 10 shuffling is horrible. I've got 10K songs, and I
usually listen to playlists of around 1000-2500. Literally, and I do mean
literally, I will hear 50 songs. I play music all day long. The same song
can come up four or five times in ONE DAY.
Now, I assume the shuffle algorithm at least partially uses the rating
system to define what it plays. However, every single song in the system has
been ranked manually, so the self-fulfilling prophecy of the more times I
accidentally hear a song I hate the more likely I am to hear it again is not
applicable.
It also appears that the machine designs a single, shuffled list, and
follows it exactly, rather than continually shuffling.
Maybe there is some settings I can tweak I don't know about?
If not, SERIOUSLY, this should be a major point of development for version
11. Give us serious shuffling tools:
Scale of 1-10
Liklihood of playing music from the same artist within X plays.
Liklihood of playing the same song in X plays.
Give preference to songs ranked highly.
Give preference to songs ranked lowly.
Give preference to songs that have been manually ranked.
Follow songs with another with similar tones, BPM, etc.
And that's just a start - I've never explored any of the aftermarket
shufflers, but I'm guessing they have some similar scales as above, plus
surely a bunch more.
Please. This would be a massive improvement to a great product.
