Hi,
New to movie making and having problems. I've made a movie of jpeg still
pics and mp3 music to go with it. It plays fine on the comp, and I converted
it to avi and burned with Nero- a vcd, and still no luck with playing it on
my dvd player. The player brochure doesn't mention .avi, only .wma as files
it will play. It does say that it will play mp3 and jpeg. Hoping for some
help- 60 days to get it done as a christmas present for mom. Thanks

To play a movie on a DVD player...you
need software that can create a VCD...
(this assumes you do not have a DVD
burner...then you might create a DVD)

First you would save your Movie Maker
project to a folder on your hard drive as
a movie...

To save as a .wmv movie file...
Type...Ctrl+P to open the Save Movie Wizard /
Choose...My Computer /
Next /
Enter a Name and a Save Location /
Next / Next.
Wait while the movie is saved /
Finish...

To save as an .avi movie file...
Type...Ctrl+P to open the Save Movie Wizard /
Choose...My Computer /
Next /
Enter a Name and a Save Location /
Next /
Show More Choices /
Other Settings /
Open the drop window and choose...DV-AVI /
Next /
Wait while the movie is saved /
Finish...

Next...you need to import the completed
..wmv or .avi movie file into a software
program that will create a VCD. Most
DVD players will play a VCD...check
the manual for your DVD player for
compatibility. A VCD is a Video Disk
created on a CD instead of a DVD.

To clarify...a VCD is not just a CD with
a Video burned on it. VCD is a special
format that has to be selected when you
burn the disk.

I've had success with a program called
'InterVideo WinDVD Creator'...there are
many others...'NeroVision Express'...is
another example. The main thing is the
program must be able to create a VCD
from a .wmv or .avi video file.

If the DVD Player is compatible with JPEG
and MP3...you could try creating a simple
Data Disk and the player should read it.
IOW...you wouldn't use Movie Maker...
just use Nero to burn the files on a CD.
(this would only work for DVD Players that
are compatible with JPEG and MP3)

Hi John,
Thanks for the quick response. I did save the project as a dv-avi on my
desktop( I had read a post you sent to someone else and tried it). When I
tried to burn this with Nero, it did burn ok, and plays on the computer, but
when trying it on tv, only the initial page(that says created with nero)
comes up, and nothing after it.
I thought about burning it as a data cd, but would it play in sequence, as I
have music that is timed to specific shots, or would I have to hit play for
each picture. Guess I should answer my own question first and give it a try.
Wish me luck. Much thanks
Rosa

(alternative suggestion below)

Do you have the full version of Nero or
the OEM version? NeroVision Express
would be included in the full version and
might create a successful VCD for you.

Maybe these links will offer some ideas:

User Guide for NeroVision Express 3
http://ww2.nero.com/nero6/enu/User_Guide_Vision_Express_3.html

The following info is for NeroVision Express
2 but I suspect the info could still be useful:
http://www.nero.com/nero6/enu/631956523192996.html

Or...maybe you need to use a different
brand of media or try burning at a slower
speed.

==================================
The data disk is just like a folder full of
files...the only control you would have
would be what the DVD player offered.
Probably little more than click to the next
picture...and there would be no
synchronization of the music.

I just thought if it would work...it would be
better than nothing.

Alternative Suggestion...

There is a program called:
MS Plus! Digital Media Edition.
Among other options...it includes
PhotoStory 2 (ok, I know PhotoStory
3 is available free but read on...)

PS2 with the addition of the free update
at the following link has an option to create
VCDs. If you continue to have problems
with your Movie Maker project and Nero...
....it may be worth looking into.

IOW...you could do your whole project
with PS2. The slide show and the VCD.

Free Update for Microsoft
Plus! Digital Media Edition

Good luck!

Hello Rosa

I had the same problem (not being able to get past the initial page) and
discovered by accident that if you press "Skip <<" the disc will play. I've
done this on seven different DVD players and it worked on all of them.
