Anyone install Plus! Digital Media Edition and find
performance problems after installing?

I purchased it for the extra transitions and video
effects, but it has tremendously slowed down my machine -
a 1.4 GHZ 1GB RAM laptop.

thoughts?

Hi there,

Do you get poor performance all of the time, or just when using the
transitions? If all of the time, then, I don't know what, something is
definitely not right. You will excuse the expression, but those silly
dancing figures got the heave-ho as did the timer features...all of those
are resource hungry

The transitions are more processor intensive than the standard ones as are
those that you can get from Pixelan. I found the contrast effect to be very
demanding on my system, but once past that point things return to normal
(I'm talking here of when saving the movie file back to the hard drive)

Your system, whilst not at the bottom of the Minimum specs is not going to
help. For example, whilst your CPU is running at 1.4GHz, what is the speed
of your Bus ?....to find that out you determine how many times the CPU clock
speed has been stepped up. For example, if the clock has been stepped up by
a factor of 14 (and I have a 2nd system here where its 19) then your
motherboard main bus is only running at 100MHz and that's slow. BTW, I am
not suggesting that you increase the stepping factor ... manufactures tend
to step things as high as they can to make it sound better than it truly
is...so even though you may have that option ... leave it alone. The other
factor that may be involved is your graphics card, in your case your
on-board graphics card. When my last card burnt out I bought what some
manufacturers call a "Golden Sample" Basically it means the cards exceeds by
a significant amount the specification it was made to...mostly through an
unusually fast CPU etc etc...so my graphics card has its CPU stepped up 3
times faster than it is supposed to run at and the cards bus speed it set
the same, three times faster than design...and that made a huge difference
to the overall speed of the system.

So what to do about it, is going to depend on your answer to my first
question....if the answer is that your system has slowed right down whether
using MM2 or not, then you may have a bad installation of DME...without more
info it would be hard to say.
