WMM or another Program for Editing

My camera takes .MOD files which means I would have to convert all the files
(using another editing software) for use with WMMaker. Because of this would
it be better to use another program for Making my movies? Id rather use WMM
so I dont have to suffer a severe learning curve. But if another program is
more powerful and would work better by someones experience could you offer
suggestions?

Thanks, however. I know people are doing that. I am asking if on experience
it would be better to edit with another program like premier elements and NOT
Windows movie maker. Even he says, you can import into ANY program you want.
Im just simply asking if another is better. (see orignial question)
