I have a panasonic NV-GS15. It gets detected when connected to 1394 port on
my laptop. But when I try to capture it just sits idle. It will show 3KB and
sits there doing nothing.

I tried using Ulead. But it gives an error message "Invalid Video Frame Rate".

With WinDV it again gives some error.

Cam as well as 1394 port seems to be working fine as I can see them in
device manager and property shows "device is working fine".

Please help me team.

assuming it's not as simple as it not being in the VCR/VTR mode... it seems
you have an issue with your firewire cable or card, which means some
detective work

try the camcorder on anohter computer with the same firewire cable... try
another cable on the laptop... until you get enough clues to point to either
the cable or the card.

Hi
Do you mean that *Both* 1394 host controller and the Panasonic
can be viewed within Device Manager?

The capture problem could be due to a configuration setting within
your software, In Ulead, depending on version, under "Capture" tab:
There is an Infomation bar that displays details of connected devices
normally in Ulead software this may involve hovering cursor over the
icons for a small window to appear.
It should detail contents of tape: It will default name content, beginning
with "uvs", it should detail the audio: "LPCM,48000hz,224kbps,stereo".
If you have the "Infomation" display, Is anything detailed? if so the
connection is fine.
Click the "Options" button (This can be to the left of screen or within
the "Tools" option on top bar) the available options:
"Capture Options":
Ensure both "Capture Audio" and "Capture to library" are selected
and that the correct frame rate is displayed - 25.000? or 29.000?
"Video format":
This will display Compression/Color space - ensure YUY2 is chosen.
"Frame size": These should match what was detailed in the "Infomation"
display - 720x576 (PAL) or 720x480(if you're NTSC). Adjust as required.
"Mpeg Settings":
in Templates drop down, this should correspond to other settings -
PAL or NTSC, frame rate 25 or 29 etc.
