Windows Media Audio/Video files isn't actually the type of file. They are
labeled as that because they are designated to play in Windows Media Player.
Using Windows Explorer to look at the files if you can't see the file
extension then you need to change how files are viewed. To do that click on
Tools -> Folder Options. Click the [View] tab and remove the checkmark next
to "Hide extensions for known file types"
Then look at the file again and there should be a 3 digit extension at the
end of the filename.
This is what Graham needed to know when asking about the type of file.
I will say though that if WMM worked with these same video files before but
doesn't now then I would try disabling the codec's/filters being used by the
program to see if that fixes the problem or not.
To do that in Movie Maker click on Tools -> Options.
Click the [Compatibility] tab and remove the checkmarks next to all the
filters.
Close and reopen Movie Maker and see if your clips play properly.
If they do then place a checkmark back in front of each filter one at a time
until the problem returns, if it returns, and you will know which one caused
the issue.

They are "Windows Media Audio/Video" files. Until just last week or so I
never had this problem. I could always play any of the clips without
combining them to the first clip. I am 99.9% sure I have not made any
changes to the porgram itself. Since this problem began I have messed
with
some settings that I am familiar with, but nothing has given me the ablity
to
preview each clip individually back.
