Sorry for the crosspost folks. Yesterday we recieved a few MOM2005 alerts
from one of our Win 2003 servers. The alert description was as below:

The following error event was returned "The class name
'Win32_NetworkAdapter' did not return any valid instances. Please check to
see if this is a valid WMI class name.". The following additional error
details were returned "Provider load failure ". Please refer to the events
associated with this alert to view the computers that have experienced this
problem.

So far we have received 2 of these exactly 12 hours apart, one at 12:17am
and one at 12:17pm.

To investigate, I ran a wbemtest from the server. Connecting to root\cimv2 I
was then able to open the class name - 'Win32_NetworkAdapter'. It displays
what appears to be all the correct information but when I click instances,
instead of showing a list of the network interfaces it diplays an error
message:

Number: 0x80041013
Facility: WMI
Description: Provider load failure

For reference, this server was upgraded to SP2 (from SP1) about 2 weeks ago
but the issue just started yesterday. Also, looking at other servers of the
same/similar configuration (hardware and software) I can't see any other
servers with issues. Does anyone have any advice or pointers on this?
Appreciate any support or advice.

CAUSE
=====

These behaviors can occur if files in the
%SystemRoot%\System32\Wbem\Repository folder become corrupted.

RESOLUTION
==========

To resolve this behavior, delete and then recreate the files in the
%SystemRoot%\System32\Wbem\Repository folder:

1. On the Desktop, right-click My Computer, and then click Manage.

2. Under “Services and Applicationsâ€, click Services, and then stop the
Windows Management Instrumentation service.

3. Delete all of the files that are in the
%SystemRoot%\System32\Wbem\Repository folder.

4. Restart the computer. The files are recreated when the computer
restarts.
