WMF fix resulted in no sound

Automatic windows update installed fix MS06-001 (KB912919) and since then my
system has had no sound. Anyone else experienced this problem?

My system locked up 3 times since last night after I installed KB912919.
It's been just fine since I uninstalled KB912919. I was playing a CD the
first time and MP3s the other two times with Windows Media Player before I
heard a pop then the system hard locked. I had to use the reset button. I
have an Intel board with a Celeron 2Ghz and Windows XP. My sound card
drivers show SoundMax integrated digial audio.
After seeing your post there might be something with our sound card drivers
not compatible with the fix. I'll just let common sense, Kaspersky and MS
Antispyware protect me for now.
