I have an HP 8655C with a 535 mhz Pentium III processor, 256 MB of RAM, and am running XP Pro.

The system freezes solid frequently, most often when I'm on the Internet and generally when I'm posting on a bulletin board or writing e-mail. Though I am usually in Netscape 7.1 when this happens, it also occurs in Internet Explorer.

The listing in Event Viewer for the most recent crash is:
Event Type: Information
Event Source: WMDM PMSP Service
Event Category: None
Event ID: 105
Date: 1/2/2004
Time: 11:08:44 AM
User: N/A
Computer: *****
Description:
The service was started.

For more information, see Help and Support Center at http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/events.asp.

On reading through Event Viewer, the majority of the freezes/crashes are marked in a similar fashion-relatively few are actually designated an 'Error'.

Any ideas would be greatly appreciated.
TIA!

WDSM stands for Windows Media Device Manager. Download the newest version from Microsoft for a start. The go to Start and choose RUN. Type msconfig and hit enter. Go to the startup tab. Here you can choose what starts automatically when you login. Unclick all media players as well as the other messenger. Hope this helps

Hi Vince,
I followed the suggestions and it's still happening. Any other possibilities? As you can imagine, this gets frustrating. (not to mention, rough on my hard drive!)

Thanks,

Katya
