Looking for a simple program to convert WMA to MP3,
I managed to copy some of my old LP's to CD before getting rid of them as
the old record player packed it in, and now the cd has been damaged, but
managed to extract the tracks OK to hard drive but only in WMA format now I
would like to have them converted to MP3!!!
Any suggestions!!

Since you were able to rip the CD to WMA it would be better to re-rip it to
MP3 rather than transcoding the WMA. If you don't have a program to do so,
CDex is fine. Both for ripping or transcoding.

Thanks to all I downloaded DbPoweramp and it did the job fine thanks,
At the time I only had windows media player to copy the tracks to my hard
drive and didn't have a choice as to what form I wanted.
Thanks all.

I use the following programme:

http://www.dbpoweramp.com/

There is a musioc file converter if you look at the main page. I am non
techie and if I can use this prog. anyone can!
I downloaded DB poweramp and tried to convert my wma files to mp3.
Unfortunately it wouldn't work, even though I installed the codecs for
wma conversion. I am running on Win 2k. The error message I get is
that my files are encrypted, though I do not use any encryption
software. But I had no problem converting them with Fast Audio
Converter, which, unfortunately, is shareware, and I only have a 14
day trial limit. Anybody who can shed any light? Thanks

Never having had any WMA files I have never used it for WMA > MP3 but CDex
has an option (in "Convert") to reencode compressed files. You would have
to set up the MP3 encoding parameters in "Settings" too. Additionally, you
could make waves from the WMAs and then encode the waves to MP3 with
whatever...that's what's happening anyway.
