What is the purpose of the "Don't download any tabs to my computer" checkbox
in Tools > Options > Privacy? The help file indicates that it might have to
do with actually hiding or showing the tabs along the left-hand side of the
Messenger window. But why refer to it as a "download"?

Greetings Chris,

The actual tabs from the .NET Messenger network no longer appear on Windows Messenger
(besides Alerts), this feature is for Office Live Communication Server (Greenwich) clients.
When you have "tabs" it actually makes connections to the websites where the tabs are
located, basically this option turns that off (along with the tabs).

Thanks. So with MOLCS, I would be able to define one or more
"tabs"--associate each tab with a web site?

Where does the idea of 'downloading a tab to my computer' come in? As it is
on the Privacy tab, it sounds like a "push" of sorts that can be disabled at
the client level.

Hi Chris,

There's a few things you can do -- you can add a Banner (say a company logo) or a link the
banner to a website (probably somewhere on the intranet), customized Help URL (so that
clicking the Help menu options will take you to a company help site, instead of the Microsoft
one), a Provider name for the 'name' of the Help link and of course the custom tabs.

To be perfectly honest, I haven't tried these features since the beta stages, and they may
have changed since. You can find more information here:
http://www.microsoft.com/technet/itsolutions/MSIT/Deploy/LCSDTWP.asp (See the Client
Branding section under Architecture).

Hopefully they'll be some better documentation shortly.
