I have perfect video, no sound for DVD's only. Sound works for itnernet
raido. DVD video and sound work on Dell pre-installed DVD player. Any ideas
why sound does not work?

Sound works on "other pc" made up by dell with a pre-installed DVD player,
but no sound on another pc...The other pc needs a DVD player installed,or
a decoder (software),this gets you license rights to play DVD.W/O the
encoder,
the video might play ok (visual),but no sound is by default till you purchase
media rights.View a few of the DVD sources

are you saying i need to download a special file to play videos with sound,
because dell has put PowerDVDX on my lpatop? and are any of these files
available for free? I don't recall paying for anythin gfor past computers
with MP 11.

Google for AC3 filter, download and install (it should be free and probably
at Sourceforge). See if that helps.

Cari: thank you so much. that did the trick!!!

It worked for me too. Thank you very much.

However something is wrong when you buy two separate Dell computers and
neither will play a DVD video!! The most expensive of these is a Dell XPS
700 costing £2000. Not only was there no sound, it refused to play the DVD at
all, citing something about 'Digital Rights'.

The AC3 filter cured both problems perfectly however the one from Software
Forge did not work - it appeared to be only a fragment. The one that worked
was from
www.afterdawn.com.

But why should have I have to do this at all? After spending £2,000 it
seems reasonable that at least the DVD player should work. This is only one
of a host of problems - another major one is the inability to record audio
off the Internet (which I can do with any non-Dell computer). Dell has a lot
to answer for. I shall not be buying another Dell computer.

I don't think it is just Dell. I have had 3 Dell computers and
never had any such problems with any of mine.
