I tried to install WMP 11 and after it installs more than 75% says that there
is a problem and that it cannot install. Web help gives the message.

"You've encountered error message C00D2AFB while using Windows Media Player.
Additional information is not currently available for this error."

This error might have been triggered by an error in another program or
component of Windows. The following information describes the original error.
Original Error Code Original Error Message
80070005 General access denied error.

See this for information, read it through to the end and you'll see the
light. The guy Zach is something to do with MS WMP, so he knows what he's
talking about :

I finally have been able to work on this, but not thru yet.
I have tried everything that I have understood and now am where setup does
go through 100%, but still is not able to finish.
There are two files in log, wmp11 and wmsetup.
The last lines of wmp11 are:

33.485: Copied file: C:\Program Files\Windows Media Connect 2\wmc_color48.bmp
33.594: DoInstallation: Installing assemblies with source root path:
f:\16c1ca377be0b017fb22953b870691\
33.594: Num Ticks for Copying files : 9000
34.297: DoRegistryUpdates:UpdSpInstallFromInfSection Failed for
ProductInstall.GlobalRegistryChanges.Install error: 0x5
34.297: INF_REGISTRY Failed
34.297: DoInstallation:DoRegistryUpdates failed
34.328: Access is denied.
34.328: wmp11 installation did not complete.

Select 'OK' to undo the changes that have been made.
34.328: Starting process:
C:\WINDOWS\$NtUninstallwmp11$\spuninst\spuninst.exe /~ -q -z
49.860: Software Update Rollback has completed successfully. The original
error message was: 0x1

The last of wmsetup is:

SUCCESS: Package 'Windows Media Player Skins'. Result: 0xd2af9.

Setup complete. Result: '0xc00d2afb'.
System restore end point set.
Setup requires a reboot. The user will need to reboot.
Setup has failed: '0xc00d2afb'.
Package clean-up: Cleaning up files at
'C:\DOCUME~1\DAVIDS~1\LOCALS~1\Temp\WMC0001.tmp\Rollup3.exe'.

It seemed strange to me that it idenifies OS as NT. Here is the beginning
of wmsetup.
[*WMC Logging begun at 2009/06/27 - 16:48:50. Logging at level: '4'. OS is
NT. OSVer is 5.1.2600.0.5781. System Lang is 1033. Prev version system is
9.0.0.4503. Setup version 11.0.5721.5146.]
Setup commandlines are
C:\DOCUME~1\DAVIDS~1\LOCALS~1\Temp\IXP001.TMP\setup_wm.exe /P:C:\Documents
and Settings\David Shumway\Desktop\wmp11-windowsxp-x86-enu.exe.
Validation completed.

Where do I go from here? Is it still a situation of registry permissions?

Thank you,
David
