Hi,

I have been trying to install a Netgear MA401 PCMCIA card
into my Windows 2000 laptop for wireless networking.
However, I get a 'code 31' error from Device Manager and
it won't load the driver.
I've tried uninstalling and reinstalling multiple times;
I've downloaded the latest driver from netgear.com; and
I've tried deleted the driver files manually.
I also tried searching through the registry for 'netgear'
but don't understand it well enough to solve the problem.

Can anyone help me?
Thanks,
S

Tech. support of Netgear should help you out.
May be, the driver you've downloded is not good for win2000.
Tampering with the registry can make the problem even worse,
especially if you are not sure what you're doing (and why).

Hello

Have you made any progress yet

I am having exactly the same error. Compaq, netgear all decr
responsibility. Device manager in window 2000 shows an error 31, n
progress after newest, or oldest or any driver installed. Fails t
uninstall - stuff stays in registry

Ummmmmmm

Many experts (including myself) have failed here

Any ideas

Freddo

Yes, in win2000 it is possible to foul up the registry so that it won't reinstall
the driver
and won't remove the garbage. In XP this is much better.
You need to clean up the registry manually but again tampering with PnP part of
the registry is only for expert. It's pity that win2000 has no Remote Assistance.
It would help a lot to look into user's system.
