A friend of mine ran a free anti-virus software program on his computer and
came up with a lot of (virus?) files on it that he then had the program
delete. Now, when he starts up his comp., he can get to his Windows XP
desktop, but then gets this window...SPRINGFLD_ADV_DAEMON:WksCal.exe-Entry
Point Not Found
The procedure entry point GetIUMS could not be found in the
dynamic link
library MSDART.DLL.
After he clicks OK on the window, his computer will not let him bring up the
Start Menu, Internet Explorer, his ISP, nothing. The computer is basically
froze up. We've tried to reinstall Windows XP, but that doesn't help. Could
I buy a WipeDisk program and try a clean install, or would that be a waste of
time? Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks...David

The only "waste of time" here is running a computer without an installed
antivirus program. There's really no excuse for that.

In addition to being plagued with viruses, the computer is probably infested
with spyware, of which the SPRINGFLD_ADV_DAEMON:WksCal.exe-Entry is one
example.

Your safest bet is a clean install of Windows. This involves completely
erasing the hard disk and starting over. Before starting with that, it would
be wise to read this part of Microsoft's web site:
