i know this must be a very old egg, but has anyone discovered an airtight
solution? (proviso being there is enough room of course)

i have found one that [seems] to work every time so far

Setting text field lengths to longest field value + 10 (chrs)
using 'Compact' report

Jethro,

You may want to get a little more detailed and explanitory
in asking your questions. This one is very tough for me to
interpet.

The only thing that I can pull out of this one is that you
may be trying to set the field length to the longest allowed
plus 10. That is kind of a no brainer to me that if the
longest allowed length is x, you cannot make it be that plus
x + 10. If you need to make a field longer than 255
characters you will need to change it's data type to 'Memo'
which will give you some search and sorting limitations.

No clue what you meant on 'compact report' or 'being enough
room'???

Please rephrase the question if I totally misunderstood it.

Regards,

i am taking about the reports wizard producing a report

more specifically that reports produced by the wizard (as bright as it is)
[always] contain at least some cropped fieldheadings/data

i have never ever known the wizard produce an uncropped report (hence the
'old egg' - people on Reports group will have seen this a million times)

just wondered whether anyone ever solved it
