My LG 15" color monitor goes off when I change the screen resolution
from 800x600 or 1024x768 pixels to any other level. The slider could go
up to 2048x1538 pixels.( Monitor on Intel(R) 82865G Graphics Controller)

Just because your graphics adapter can deal a wide range of resolutions does
not infer that your monitor can handle them all.. the ability of your
monitor to handle different resolutions is the important thing here.. have
you looked in the accompanying manual?

Thanks for the update.
This monitor (purchased some years back) is a gift to me from a friend
of mine. This I got this from him after my old monitor worked badly. So
I do not have any manual. I tried to go to the LG site and could not
find any details.

You can pretty well know that a 15" monitor will only support 1024x768
as a *maximum*. It doesn't matter about your video card. As Mr. Hall
said, you need to use 1024x768 at most.

And even if the monitor, supported a resolution higher than 1024x768, on a
15" monitor most people would find that it made the text so small as to be
unreadable.
