Something to add to what, I'm sure, must be kept
somewhere . . .
How about a visual clue that clicking on a link will open
in a separate window.

Meaning, sometimes clicking on a link will open in a
separate browser window, sometimes it doesn't.

I know I can always force the opening in a separate by
holding down "space bar" while clicking, but I would like
to know when I don't have to.

Suggestion, on the "little hand" that shows when you
hover over a link, how about either a "+" sign that
displays over a link that will open another window,
or even put a "cuff" on the wrist of the hand when that
link will open in a separate window.

This already exists. It is possible for individual web site designers to
specify the cursor style for hyperlinks. There is a Popup blocker called
GuardIE that shows a different cursor for hyperlinks that contain "Open in
new window " code.
