So far, the Windows workstation is supporting multiple
monitors, multiple keyboards and multiple mouse. Can the
next Windows OS support 2 users at the same time? What I
mean is not those terminal server or remote desktop. I
just want to, say, the father uses the primary monitor,
primary keyboard and primary mouse to work and at the same
time, the child uses secondary monitor, secondary keyboard
and secondary mouse to play.

You can do this with Microsoft's server products.

XP is intended as a single user product. I would expect that Microsoft
will continue in future to sell a single user product and that it will
predominate the consumer market.

You can also consider alternative OS's that today have that capability,
e.g. Linux.

It is more than a good idea: it is an essential idea, for a "media
center" PC.

The family ought to be able to watch tv or a movie, at the same time
that someone is accessing e-mail or a spreadsheet, perhaps locally or
through remote access.

As more and more devices depend on the PC, at least one of the home PCs
is going to have start looking & acting more like a server.
