Have looked at many solutions to article 871122 problems but cant seem to
find one that corrects mine. Our ISP was BT, which turned off WZC. I want to
change from BT and have deleted the programmes via Add and Delete Programmes
in the Control Panel. Running XP by the way. When the laptop searches for
networks it still only finds BT's. Can’t seem to turn WZC back on. Can anyone
help?

WZC is a "service" and can be turn on there.

BT provided a wireless router??? If yes, then it is correct that the
WZC will find a BT network. Do you have a different configured
router?

Maybe BT provided the adapter as well, so it can be locked on specific
SSIDs or BSSIDs?

The PC in question is a laptop. There are no extra modems etc. The BT
installation disc turned off Microsoft's WZC.

Have tried this for a second time and it seem to have worked. Thanks for your
thoughts.

Open this key:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\WZCSVC

3. Create a DWORD value named "Start" and set it to 2.

Run MSCONFIG and look at the list of "Startup" applucations. There
might be a "left-over" BT setting / application.

Might be worth adding that there is typically NO need to install this ISP
software, and in general I avoid doing so if at all possible.

BT routers have the SSID and WPA key on a sticker, and that is all you need
to get going.
