Wireless Zero Configuration not installed on XP pro box?

I have recently installed a wireless network in which only two of the
machines are actually wireless, using a linksys wireless router.

On the first machine, I used a linksys 802.11b PCI card, which at the
time was only $40. After installing the card, Windows allowed me to
configure the interface, including WEP security without installing any
other software.

On the 2nd machine, I installed a D-Link 802.11b PCI card as well.
However, the wireless networks tab on the connection properties was
not available, and when I checked to see if the service was running,
it wasn't even available in the services MMC.

The 2nd machine is working fine on the network, but even after I
install D-Link utility, I cannot setup WEP at all. The only measure of
security I can use is MAC filtering.

I thought WZC was installed on WinXP be default. I dont see it in the
components setup, and I am tempted to just reinstall the OS.

Help would be appreciated.

uninstall the dlink utility
Open services and scroll down to Wireless Zero Configuration Service, Start
the service and set it to automatic. If it does not show in the list of
Services:

run regedit and find

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\WZCSVC

add a DWORD entry named "Start" and
value "2"

reboot
