Wireless setup in Vista

Just got a new Dell laptop with Vista and built in wireless 11.02g card. It
found my home wireless connection but will NOT connect to the internet. Dell
says that the driver is incompatible with Vista and hopefully a new driver
will be out in about two weeks. Is there a way to set this wireless up now??

Who is the manufacturer of your wireless card? (Look in Device Manager,
under Network adapters > right click the wireless entry, choose Properties).

If it is a new dell laptop call or check their website for a new driver.
Your the first I have seen with that type of connection problem.
Most people can connect but are having problems with domain connection and
sharing,

I was also having problems on two different networks with my new Dell
laptop. The Dell help desk was actually going to have me install XP
drivers to try to fix the problem. Fortunately, I refused. The Dell
software folks transfered me to their hardware support group which
turned out to be the solution for me. They were much more informed on
how to fix my issues.

On one network, I had to broadcast my SSID. Without doing this, I was
unable to successfully connect at all to my wireless network. Once I
started broadcasting my SSID, I was fully connected.

On the other network, I had to upgrade ("flash") the software in the
router itself. Although the router worked fine for Windows XP, Windows
Server 2003 and Windows 2000 machines, it apparently did not like the
way Vista tried to use IP. Go figure. I always thought that IP was IP.
I suspect is has something to do with IPV6 but I never took the time
to figure this out.

Hope this helps.

It's a Dell Wireless 1390 WLAN Mini-Card

I am having problems setting up my wireless network. My Desktop with linksys
wkr54g router attached is running XP, my new laptop is Vista. I can share
the internet but not files. I have spent several hours on the phone with
dell support and we went back and forth playing with the WEP key and other
settings.

Unfortunately, you're at the mercy of Dell producing a Vista-compatible
driver. I was hoping it would be a 3rd party vendor with better support.
You could try taking your laptop to a place that has a free wi-fi connection
to see if you can connect there, to which, if you can connect, might
indicate problems with your home setup.

I'm using the 1390 and it works fine with my Linksys WAP54G. The notebook
I'm using is a 1505 Vista Home Prem.

The driver version is 4.102.15.56 dated 11/13/06
