Hia folks,
I have a netgear wireless set up (WGR614v6) router and
WG311T receiver.

It's all working fine, but I do not have any security on it. Had a look at
the "simple" instructions, but havn't a clue what I'm doing. Someone showed
me a number to get into set up, I think it was the address of my router, but
forgotten how he got it, so I cannot even get into the set up.

I also remember in the set up it asking to input a long Hex code, is this
the MAC no of the router? the reciever has a different MAC, and if I go into
the Network properties, this as a different MAC no again! I'm totally
confused and don't know what to do. What is SSID? it says Netgear on one
part, and "any" on another? HELP

any help appreciated

The netgear site details how to access the router from internet explorer and
how to set up the various options

Hi Rod,
Adding to DL advice, you need to set WPA is safer than WEP.
Follow the steps on the Netgear website to secure your Wireless Network
using the WPA.

And one more point of assurance for you. If you setup something wrong,
there is (or should be) a reset button on the back of the wireless
router. You might have to press with a paper clip, but it will reset
your router back to factory settings. So don't fear the process too
much. Its reversible. Use it only if you are sure no one changed
anything, remember it resets everything. Its great if you just pulled
it out of the box and started using it.
