Wireless routers?

Is there a lot of difference in the effectiveness of wireless routers?

My only obvious use for wireless would be either to use the laptop out on
the deck or upstairs while in bed. Would a wireless router be likely to be
marginal in such "through the wall" or "through the floor" situations
assuming no masonry or metal walls or floors?

Thanks

You can find product reviews on this site, for various wireless devices.
Some of the reviews, contain comments about what the various frequencies
or protocols are good for.

Example of a review here.

No offense, but you can find thousands of product reviews everywhere, none
of which give an experienced overall view of the likelihood of marginal
behavoir in general.

I might similarly ask, "are these things all they're made out to be.?" But
that would probably get the same old "go find out for yourself" answer I see
more and more nowadays.

Thanks

Unfortunately with RF devices it is often a case of suck it and see.
I've seen WiFi reach two or three neighbours away and in other cases it
won't work across a room.

All I can say is stick to the brand names for best chance of good
performance.

Best
Paul.

Now _that_ finally answers my very first question, simply and directly.
