I am trying to install wireless-g pci adapter to my home
computer. Hardware and software installed fine; can't get
a remote connection, however. Linksys support told me
that "absolutely" I must remove Windows XP hotfix
KB824146 to make that connection. Does that sound right?
If so, can anyone advise on the procedure by which I can
remove that hotfix? Thanks.

hey man.. ok email me at anytime. if u want help.. ok, assuming u have basic computer knowledge, all u have to do i go to control panel>add/remove programs, oncce ur in there..

scroll down to tge appropriate Windows XP Hotfix, and click remove, follow the instructions, etc, ( you will be required to restart your computer for most changes to take place..

just wondering, how are you going about your remote access/administration, EMAIL ME AT (e-mail address removed)

That sounds like horrible advice to me.

824146 is MS 03-039.

This is the successor to the original Blaster patch.

If you have neither this nor MS 03-026, nor a firewall, and connect to the
Internet, you'll be infected by blaster in seconds.

If you are safely behind a firewall and want to see whether the advice
helps, this patch should be listed in add/remove programs.

I'm skeptical, if you can't tell--I'd like to hear whether this solves your
problem--if you can make the connection without the patch in place, can you
then reinstall the patch and maintain the connection?

They may know more about this in microsoft.public.network_web.

I'd like to hear how this turns out--and what species of Linksys gear is
involved?
