I have a wired network with a wireless access point. Also have a Cano
imagerunner 1370(f) multifunction. Wish to add a linksys printerserve
wireless access point. I have followed the protocol to establish th
printerserver but get a connection failed error message when testin
the wireless connection.

Linksys suggested obtaining a generic driver from Canon, could not fin
one. Any suggestions

First, the usual result when everything works as well as it ever will is
that you will have printer functions and no scanner or fax capability over
the wireless.

Next, the printer monitor module is generally the culprit when you can talk
to the printserver via tcp/ip, and the printer attached to it does not seem
to work. You may be able to deselect monitoring in the driver, or even
prevent the monitor module from loading.

There are specific configuration issues with the various printservers. These
usually involve communication with the printserver, not between the
printserver and the printer.

The "generic Canon driver" reference was to (usually older) printer drivers
intended for LAN use. It may or may not apply. I don't know what basic canon
printer behavior is emulated by your multifunction device. In any event, the
"generic canon driver" might pose some install difficulties, due to a
printer/device ID mismatch. The last time I ran into this issue, it involved
a BJC 620 printer. The standard driver package was based upon the "Windows
Printing System". For LAN use, a driver intended for European use that did
not have the winprint whistles and bells (monitoring) was required.

The drivers for the multifunction will likely not detect the printer
attached to the printspooler. This might force a manual install, or require
you to first install the drivers with the printer connected to a USB port.

I've used canon and brother printers with wireless printservers, and they
were usually a real pain to get to work.
