my microsoft optical mouse has stopped working (was working when it was first installed and then just stopped). i have read that i have to change something in the registry.....but if i make a mistake i may have to reload my OS. this is a ridiculous thing to ask non-technical users to do. can anyone tell me if this is the likely problem or could it be something simpler. i have downloaded the current driver and installed it with no effect.

If the mouse was working before then stay away from the registry. If it was a registry problem then you would have seen device errors or conflicts from the beginning. If it is connected by USB change ports after you reboot and see if that works. Also there is a reset button on the bottom of the mouse. Use a pen to push it this will reset it. Hope this helps.

Also make sure the battery in the mouse is working.
