Wireless Optical Mouse - battery failure

Intellimouse software upgraded last week to v5.0.
Batteries changed yesterday. Now frequently getting
Critical battery level alarm.
Help please
 
Old batteries?

Well, I would recommend you to use recharable batteries. I have to change
mine at least once a week. ;-)

Geez, sounds like a bad mouse. I just replaced the batteries
that came with my Intellimouse Explorer 2.0, which lasted
almost 6 months. I use my computer 4-5 hours every day.
If a fresh set of batteries doesn't work, I'd take it back and
exchange it. The new version mice (the ones with the sticker)
say 3x longer life.....for what that's worth....
I think 6 months isn't bad, for my use.
 
Brand new batteries out of the packet (and yes I know they can be dead)
We also have 2 A4Tech wireless mouses here that use rechargeable batteries,
so I might try their spare batteries!
What I failed to say in original post was that if you goto mouse control in
control panel, the battery indicator says that batteries are fine.
 
I don't believe that the batteries are faulty! Everything is working fine!.
I suspect a glitch in the software.

I've seen the same thing... we have two wireless MS Intellimouse
Explorer 2.0 mice that are identical. On one the batteries can last
1-2 months with hard usage. On the other, it asks for new batteries
every 5-7 days. Again the mouse applet in Control Panel says the
batteries are good. Both computers have the same MB, CPU, memory and
video card configurations.

So do you change the batteries on the one that says you should? We haven't.
The other M$ mouse here actually does have low batteries (according to
control panel applet) but they won't get changed till they die - we have
made a note! We haven't really tracked the battery usage, but will do so
now.

Well, I switched mice with my wife (who was having the battery low
issues) and I'll see what it does here. It's possible that other
issues were involved. I've heard (not verified) that interference from
other devices can have an effect. She has a cordless 2.4ghz phone in
her room, which I understand could interfere with the mouse sleep
cycle. Not sure I totally believe that, but it's worth a shot. I also
use a different mouse pad. According to the MS site, having certain
colors in your mouse pad (red?) can prevent the mouse from cycling
off.

UPDATE!! My wife reported a critical battery low message on her
computer while using my old mouse (her old mouse on my system is
working fine). Looking at the Control Panel it says the Battery Level
is fine. So, something is definitely screwy with her setup.

I did a Google search and a MS Knowledge Base search and came up with
very little. I wonder if this is a bug in the 5.0 software? I could
have her uninstall it and then re-install. Any other ideas??
