Wireless not working

I am using a windows Vista 32 bit home premium notebook computer for
which the wireless network detection has stopped working.

I updated the driver for the built in wireless card with out any
results.
I also tried a plug in wireless card which windows detected and said
was working properly and this did not work either. This leaves me to
believe that something is wrong with the OS.

I can get on the internet via dialup modem and also by the ethernet
connection with a DSL modem.

I have been to several hotspots that I know have wifi and no networks
show up.

All critical windows updates have been installed.

Any ideas, this is not my computer so I do not have much history on
it. Thanks

You sure that laptop doesn't have an external switch to disable the
wireless? My laptop has that external switch to turn the wireless on or
off.

What part of the following did you find hard to understand?

"I also tried a plug in wireless card which windows detected and said

I suggest that you mind your own business. Do you understand that?

Leaves me to believe the settings are incorrect.
But a couple of bozos in this thread have an answer coming.
Wait for it...

With you being the ring-tale leader, I suspect, fake Dracula.

I got no idea what that meant.
If it was an insult, well done.

Hehe.

You idiot, you're sitting there posting with the nym "Vlad-the-Impaler"
you fake Dracula. You don't even know how to two names are even linked
to each other. Hey, don't post with the nym as you are unworthy to use it.

Also idiot, how can the settings between two cards be incorrect? I have
a wireless internal card on this laptop I use to connect to the wireless
at work. I also have a Cricket wireless USB card I use on the same
machine to connect to Cricket's wireless for my personal use, which both
having different drivers.

You have cricket wireless?
You poor moron.

One day, you'll be able to afford a real carrier.

If you set up your wireless incorrectly, it doesn't matter how many different adapters you plug in.

You moron, the wireless is setup based on the card being used and the
driver being used for the card. Idiot, a card can be mis-configured. But
you missed the fact that it was working before for the OP's friend for
the internal card, and it stopped working. Also, the OP used a second
card an USB one. It doesn't take a rocket rocket scientist to figure out
a wireless setup.

I suspect that there is nothing wrong with the wireless connection
itself from the machine, and the real problem is that the machine is not
obtaining an IP from the DHCP server on the a network that's going to
allow the machine to access the Internet, like it's can obtain the IP
from a DHCP server on the BB or dial-up connection.
What you do with the $400 laptop you stole from your welfare Mother is of no concern.

You are biting off more than you can chew.

Idiot, I am a .Net contractor, and I move across the US. The start-up
fee for Cricket wireless is $125 and $40 a month for the wireless
service, which I can connect anywhere in the US and get to the Internet
on the wireless connection provided.

Also idiot, I have a separate ISP that also allows me to connect to the
Internet by cable, wireless, DSL or phone from anywhere in the world,
you dumb home user.

So stupid, my wireless Verizon cellular phone, wireless USB service with
Cricket for the laptop, and my ISP that allows me to connect to the
Internet from any where in the world as long a I have a connection from
a sources named is not chicken-fee on the bills for the services.

And to do development work on my laptop running IIS, MS SQL Server, VS
2008 and a whole host of other solutions concerning software development
the laptop cost considerably more than $400. :)

But mostly you work in Ohio.

It's my home state. So what?
THERE you are, "Mr. Arnold", "The Bee", "Jack the Ripper", and a host
of others!

So Sherlock so what?
It's been a while, bozo.

It's been a while at what stupid. You mean nothing to me, so don't think
that you do mean anything, stupid
Yeah, it's you. I just checked the headers of one of your recent
nyms over in COLA - "Inspector Thumper" ... they match this one.

So? And there is not a thing you can do to stop me. I am going to do
what I want to do.
Vlad, lad... this guy is a nym-shifter extra-ordinaire.

What do you think Vlad is doing stupid?
And a sleaze bag.

Stupid, I am in Ohio now. I have been in CA, Nevada, Illinois, and New
York working contacts.

And you two faced idiot, you dance one tune here while you suck-up to
people here. While on the other hand, you dance another tune in COLA
sucking-up to people there.

I have seen you doing it. I may change my nym any time I get ready, but
unlike you, I am not two faced. I make no effort to change headers,
because there is nothing you can do to stop me, nothing. :)

You can point-dog all you want. It's not stopping a thing, because
Usenet is not putting one dime in my pockets. Nor is Usenet my life like
it's your life, and your reason for being alive.

None of them answered the question.

Your answer didn't do anything either.
And he stated "he updated the driver for the built in wireless".

The wireless went out before the driver were updated, stupid. The driver
is not the problem. It's more like the TCP/IP stack is hosed for the
wireless connection and not the other connection types.
They sure are jumpy.
What are you talking about?
Makes me laugh.

Vlad, you sound like Frank with the hehe's.
