Wireless networking

I am trying to connect to my wireless network at home. I know the WEO key,
but it is 256 bit. I can only enter a 64 or 128 bit key in Windows Vista.
Does anyone know if its possible to change the key length? I've looked
through the driver properties and can't find anything related.
 
what router and what wireless card are you using? you should be
using WPA2/WPA, not WEP. The WEP standard is 64 or 128 and really
provides no real security these days.

post some info on your hardware and what drivers you are using.

Thanks for your reply. I understand about the WEP security issue, however I'm
using a wireless router that only supports WEP (I've had it a while). The
router is D-Link DSL-604+ and the PCI card is Broadcom BCM43XX. I've set the
key to 128-bit and all is fine. It sounds like I need to invest in a new
router. The one I've got doesn't seem to support WAP even with a firmware
update.
 
that 604+ is not a US model, but I found a data sheet. it apparently
uses the non standard 22mbps chips but is backwards compatible with
802.11b. the data sheet mentions 256 bit security, but since that
isn't standard, it must be something proprietary that D-Link added.

as you experienced, 128 bit WEP should work fine, but do think about
replacing it with a new router that supports all the latest and
greatest speeds and security. I'm using a D-Link DIR 655 and am
quite happy with it. I was previously using a D-Link DGL4300 and it
worked beautifully with Vista and everything else.
