ok heres the deal,

I at the moment have two desktop pcs on a LAN through a netgear router
(this is not wireless)

I have just got a laptop I would like this to be on a wireless LAN

I want all the computers to be on the same network (so we can share
printers, files etc)

Is this possible without buying another router and is this even
possible with buying another router because then I imagine it would be
on a seperate LAN?

many thanks,

It seems to me that the easiest and cheapest thing to do is to replace the
existing router with a wireless router (that would also have wired ports).

Another router need not be on a separate LAN. You can think of it being
used in two ways:
- don't use the WAN port .. therefore no NAT and the router is really just a
switch.
- if you must use the WAN port, disable NAT.

Well, you seemed to be concerned about cost. I believe you can get a
high-volume router cheaper than the access point you refer to. At any rate,
the access point won't be cheaper than a router and because the routers sell
at much higher volume the chance for a lower price is very good.

It may be slightly easier setup with the access point but you should not
have to change the computers on the network if you change the router. At
least in the ideal situation.... So whatever "hassle" you had before would
likely be avoidable.
