I have a Dell Dimension laptop running WinXP, and am using a D-Link
wireless router (614+). The network is working fine, as I am presently
using an Apple laptop to access the router. A few days ago, the Dell
laptop, using an Intel PRO/Wireless LAN 2100 card, was working fine at
home. I routinely take the laptop to work, and access the wired network
there, and never had any problems, until today, when I brought the Dell
home and have been unable to access the wireless network. I updated the
drivers for the Intel card, uninstalled and reinstalled the card, and
have messed with many many settings in Network connections. I do not
think anything has changed, although I cannot rule out an automatic
update for WinXP. HOWEVER, I do not have the WindowsX XP Hotfix (SP2)
Q815xxx file that was reported to cause simlar problems (The only
WindowsX XP Hotfix (SP2) Q815xxx file that I have is Q815021). Maybe a
piece of software was uninstalled or installed in the last week(?)
I am at a loss as to what to do. This is very frustrating going from
everything working fine to dead in the water (for my PC...the two Apples
at home work fine). To be sure, I know a bit around the PC XP, but I am
not an expert, and could be very easily be missing something obvious.
For example, I cannot find anyplace to assign a channel for the wireless
card to match the channel for the router (6). The name is the same
(default).
-I did have WEP encription, but I disabled that.
-I have not updated the firmware for the wireless card (don't know how)
-I dont (think I) have any sort of firewall or Brigdging enabled
-Oh, and of course the device manager says everything is fine.
-One hitch could be that early on, when I first started this fun, I
updated the firmware on the router, which required me to release the IP
address on the Dell computer. I couldn't connect before, but I do not
know if this could have affected something else to make it not possible
even if I did solve another problem.
Any input would be appreciated
Quite simply, the Dell is not detcting any network via the wireless card
