Wireless network switching to other access points

I have wireless networking in my home which (most of the time) works
fine. Upon occassion, the client adapter seems to find another
network (someone in my neighborhood). I have not yet found a way to
tell XP to ONLY connect to my access point. Removing these
alternative networks from the preferred list and specifying that I
don't want to connect to non-preferred networks does not seem to work.
The less tech-savvy in my family are puzzled when internet access is
available, but printers on (wirelessly connected) machines are not. I
would prefer to lose the connection entirely rather than connect to
someone else's network.

All insights are greatly appreciated.

I would, knowing that there is another network that your
system is connecting to, be wary of them connecting to
yours. I would imediately set up at least a 64 bit
encryption. And inform your systems that you will only
connect to encryted networks. This way when it sees
another non encrypted network it will ignore it. That
should do the trick without too much of a hassle.

1. change the channel on YOUR SSID (try 11 or 1)
2. change the default SSID name
3. turn broadcast of the SSID on
4. be sure to use 128 bit WEP
