I recently installed a small office network using a
Linksys wireless router and Linksys wireless USB devices.
In this office, 3 of the connections installed and worked
correctly and two did not. Linksys tech support said it
was due to a problem in Win XP on those two machines. On
those two desktops, under Wireless Network Connection
Properties, they had a center tab
labeled "Authentication" rather than "Wireless Networks"
as found on the machines that worked. What caused this
difference and how do I correct it?

Is the wireless zero configuration service running?

Open services (stqrt, run, services.msc [ok] ) and scroll down to
Wireless Zero Configuration Service, Start the service and set it to
automatic. If it does not show in the list of Services:

run regedit and find

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\WZCSVC

add a DWORD entry named "Start" and value "2"

Thanks for the reply. I checked that and it is running in
automatic. Any other ideas?

check the firmware and the driver for the adapter on the machine you
are having this issue with. it could be different batch of hardware
that needs an upgrade to be XP compliant.
