Hi,

I'm sorry if this is not all that technical, but it is
really driving me nuts and I'm hoping someone knows what
I can do.

I just purchased a laptop with built in wireless
technology that I use with my lynksis wireless
transmitter (I'm not sure if it is a router or not, but
I'm guess yes)two days ago. At first I plugged it in and
everything worked great. I also attempted to set up a
home network on this computer so I could access the files
on my old computer (running windows 98) with a wireless
card. I followed the wizard, but I'm not sure if I set
it up properly. Nevertheless, I was able to locate my
old computer and bring the files to my new computer.
Later I was checking my email through webmail and tried
to open a .pdf attachment. At that point my computer
froze and when I tried to close the program, the computer
shut down (without me doing so). Once I turned it back
on I could no longer use my wireless internet. I tried
manipulating many settings in my network connections, but
have been unable to conect to the internet. My wireless
status says it is sending and receiving packets, but I
can't connect to the internet nor can I ping any site.
When I plugged in the ethernet directly from the cable
modem, my computer connected to the internet with no
problems.

If you have any suggestions at all on what I can do to
fix this problem I would be really appreciative. Thank
you for your time and expertise in advance.

Hi,

The symptoms I encounter are in my wireless network I see
my wireless network and get excellent signal strength. I
see that it is sending and receiving packets, however,
when I attempt to connect to the internet it tries to
open the page and then goes to page cannot be displayed.
I've tried every different type of configurartion in the
wireless network config settings. If I plug in my local
area connection bypassing my lynksis wireless hub and
directly into my cable modem I connect to the internet no
problem.

Please let me know if you require more information.

David

Dear David,

Thank you for your reply.

1. In general, once your account has logged in the ISP, you will be
prompted with confirmation message such as "you have logged in...". Could
you please confirm that your account has been finished validated?

Note: You may try other random ISP such as MSN or AOL to narrow down the
problem scope.

2. Move the computer to a room with less magnetic devices, and then test
again.

Sincerely,

Seaver

My ISP has been functioning fine. And I've moved the
computer around the house, so I don't think it is that.
Do you have any other suggetions?

Dear David,

During logon process in ISP, you will at last be prompted with confirmation
message such as "you have logged in...".

Could you please confirm that your account has been finished validated?

If not while connected, the culprit lies in Server side. Therefore more
ISPs are recommended to try to narrow down the problem scope.

Regards,

Seaver
