I have read many similar problems in the discussion groups but cannot find
exact answer.
I have a wireless network. There are two PC's and one laptop connected
through a wireless router connected to cable DSL. All machines can ping each
other and all access internet correctly. Both PC's have printers connected
to it. All are on the same workgroup. Both PCs run on WIN XP SP2 Home whilst
laptop is on WIN XP SP2 Professional.
The problem: One PC (call it A) can access files on the other PC (B) and the
laptop. The other PC(B) and the laptop can access each other's files but not
any files on PC A. Neither the PC (B) nor laptop can connect to the printer
on PC (A). All machines can use the printer connected to PC (B). Guest
account is activated on all machines.
When using the printer instal wizard on either PC (B) or laptop it sees the
printer connected to PC (A) but when I select it, Windows requires a password
for the connection. It wants me to sign on as computername\guest (greyed out
so I cannot change it). There is no password for guest and anyway according
to what I've read guest should be able to access shared files and printer
without password. Printer connected to PC (A) has been selected to share.
Is there anything that I can try?
PS. It is just possible that in the dim and distant past I may have
activated a password on one of the guest accounts (if it is possible) but I
cannot remeber the action nor the possible password. If this could be the
problem someone could perhapss advise how I get past this blockage!
