Since I got XP I have not been able to use my home wireless
network to access the Internet. I used the same set up with
win2000 and worked and my husband is currently using it. My
wireless card works, my wireless home portal works, my
cable internet works but I do not have access to Internet.
I am getting an IP that is not that of my portal although
my computer/wireless card sees my home network that is set
up in the Preferred and gives status "Excellen connection".
I have entered the correct encryption key for the card and
portal to talk and do not use authentication or firewall.
Somehow another wireless network in our building (there are
a few) overrides my preferred (seen by checking my IP address)
I have all the latest drivers and everything is compatible
with XP. All component swere tested and work.
Thanks for any help

Have you removed all but your network from the list of preferred
networks and un-checked "Automatically connect to non-preferred
networks"?

If your wireless network uses MAC address filtering, make sure that
your wireless card's MAC address is in the allowed list.
