Wireless Network Interference

I am in an area with two different wireless networks near
my laptop. One network is mine, and one is the person's
down the hall. Mine has a different SSID than theirs,
and I have my network in the list of "Preferred
Networks." So does anybody know why about every five or
so minutes windows XP home decides to disconnect me from
my wireless network and connect to the one down the
hall? I have tried everything and cannot figure this out.

actually, windows xp stores the settings for each configured preferred
network, so if you configure your own network once and a public network once
you should not have to configure them again, provided you leave them in the
preferred networks list and not remove them.
