My university's wireless network offers directions on how
to set up my computer to work with its wireless network. I
get hung up on the most basic step. If I choose the
network connection, and then choose properties (for the
wireless card, a Linksys WPC11, v3.0), there are only two
tabs, general and advanced. My setup instructions say
there should be a third tab, "wireless network connection
properties" which simply does not appear as one of my
options. I have Windows XP Home, and I have downloaded SP1
and the other recent updates, including the most recent
update for my wireless card driver. What am I missing?

WZCSVC (wireless zero-configuration service of WinXP) on your machine is not enabled or misconfigured.
Your network admin will help you to fix this.
