Hi, I have a small wireless network in my home consisting
of 2 computers (dell and compaq) and 2 laptops (dell and
compaq). All have d-link wireless cards installed. My
problem is with the compaq Evo desktop. The wireless
connection connects, stays up for about 12 seconds then
drops. It the reconnects for 12 seconds then drops again,
and so forth. I have swapped the wireless cards between
the Dell and the compaq to no avail, I have even re-
installed the operating system, all are xp pro. Any ideas
or diagnostics I can run to isolate this problem.

Many thanks

Regards

Click "Start", point to "Connect To", click "Show all connections" and then
double-click your wireless network adapter.
On the "General" tab, click "Properties".
Click the "Wireless Networks" tab, click your home network under "Preferred
Networks", and then click "Properties".
Click the "Authentication "tab, and then make sure that the following is not
selected:
- "Enable IEEE 802.1x authentication for this
network"

Thanks,

Shut down. Remove the wireless card. Reboot. Check the installation
instructions for the card carefully. Do you need to install the driver
before the card is installed, etc. Check Device Manager. Are any
problem devices listed. Run System Information and review the reports.
Are there conflicts, etc., on your custom built computer that should be
resolved? Have you installed all of the mainboard and chipset drivers
that are required? Run the mobo diagnostics and see what it tells your
(if there is one). Is the system BIOS set up properly?
