Belkin tech support is useless. They made me reinstall WinXP...they
apparently don't know that patch 826942 (I think that's the number) from
Microsoft for WinXP wireless causes a problem. Do you have this patch?
If you do, your hardware must be WPA compatible - check your router and
wireless card. If your hardware is not (like my Belkin card and SMC
router) then uninstall the patch first, reboot and check again.

If that's not the case -

1. Did the card ever work in this system?
2. if yes, what changed?
3. if no, then turn off security/encryption in your router and card and
try again till it works
4. try changing the channel that your router/card uses from the default to
another. This will help if neighbors use a similar setup, and if other
devices (phone, microwave etc.) are interfering

Belkin software is flaky - but you have to use it, so turn off the
WindowsXP built-in configuration and use the Belkin monitor.

Please followup to the newsgroup with details about how far you get. Are
you able to connect to the router atleast (using the IP address)

Hmmm. So do you have a wireless router at all, or are you just trying to
connect your desktop and laptop via wireless?

What I gather from this post is that you have ADSL coming into your house
and to the desktop. Now you want your laptop to connect wirelessly to
your desktop to share the internet connection. Is that right? FYI, this
is called "ad-hoc" networking.

What I would have done is to get a wireless router, leave the desktop
wired and make the laptop connect to the wireless router. This is called
"infrastructure" networking in wireless speak.

You might want to look at Belkin's web site for basic home networking
setup instructions.

I have just purchased the same 2 cards and also found them hard to setup
(probably because i have never used wireless before and the manual is not
the best). Anyway, as you don't have a wireless access point you have to
set the cards up in Ad Hoc mode. Basically after you have installed the
cards the little icon will be red. Double click it and then click the
advanced button. It should come up with two empty sections for prefered
networks and available networks. click the add button on prefered networks
and enter 'test' or something in the SSID field, then click the check box
at the bottom about it being an ad hoc network, Click OK to return to the
previos page and then click apply. test should appear in both the
available and the prefered networks also the icon should go green. the
Other card should now be able to see the 'test' network and be able to
connect to it.

To share your broadband connection you will need to use internet
connection sharing, turn on sharing and then set the second pcs wireless
connection to 'automatically get ip address' and 'automatically get dns'

Hope this helps
