Hi,

I installed a wireless network (Linksys G) on my daughters
two computers. The computer with the wireless card, an
older one w Win98, will not recognize the network. Selecting "Network
Neighborhood" yields a complaint that it can't access
the network. The computer itself does not show up as a network node, as it
does in all other installations I've made. However, it
can access the internet just fine. The newer computer, w XP
home, is connected to the wireless router and is working.

The Win98 system already had a network card which had been
used to access the internet modem directly. The network configuration list
is a mess compared to all others I've seen. Can someone point me to what
should show up?

The Linksys documentation assumes all goes well. Their support was not
helpful.

Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks,
Gary

1.
Your wireless router must me configured as an unique DHCP Server in your
network, this is a default setting from factory, this feature assigns IP
addresses automatically to all computers.

2.

In each computer :
From Control Panel, select Network.
Look for the connection associated with your wireless adapter.
Locate the TCP/IP protocol and get into its Properties. For IP Address,
select "Obtain an IP address automatically" and "Obtain DNS server address
automatically."

3.

In each computer with Win 98 :

From Control Panel, select Network.
Locate the Identification TAB in the Network window.
Computer Name :

Each computer must be identified by a unique name in your network, enter
DaughterA_PC in PC 1, DaughterB_PC in PC 2, and WXP_PC in PC 3

Workgroup :

This name must be the same in PC 1, PC 2, and PC 3, enter MSHome in all of
them

4.

Look for File System Properties to share the folders that you want
