I am a university student and I have an IBM Laptop with
Windows XP Professional OS. My Laptop has both wireless
internal network card. Currently, my laptop is configured
with our school's network via wireless system so I can
access my school programs and Internet. However, when I
get to my boarding house which is about 2 miles away, my
wireless network is inaccessible. My landlord has provided
me a high speed Internet cable connection as part of my
lodging.

My question is this: How can I configure my laptop to work
on the high speed Internet cable at my boarding house
using the internal network AND wireless network at my
school without affecting each other? Right now, I have to
stay at school very late in order to finish my assignment
which is not very convenient...

Hi,

How is the internet connection that you have at your house?
Is it using a wired or wireless connection?

If it is through a wired connection, then just plug the network cable into
your notebook, and if it's setup with a DHCP server then your notebook
should be able to obtain an IP address and then you should be able to surf
the internet.

If it requires you to specifiy a IP address then you'll have to get that
information and put it into your network card properties.

.

try reading about network bridge...

find out if your school has login access from the internet
and if u need special access sofdtware for it

if u just wanna use the internet then just configure yur
ethernet port like others on the boarding house network.

whatever port is connected is what will come up

MultiNetwork Manager from www.globesoft.com
is an ideal software for you, once configured you just
select configuration at boot time it will save you a lot
of time and frustration
