Wireless network adapter card incorrectly recognized as wired card

Two weeks ago my wireless network adapter card stopped
working. Upon uninstalling and reinstalling the driver,
Win2K now recognizes the card as a LAN card and has the
status "Network cable unplugged", even though it correctly
identifies the device by name. Long troubleshooting
sessions with the manufacturer (DWL 650+ by D-Link) has
yielded no results.

Any ideas?

Are the settings all the same as the corresponding peers or
access point requires?

Infrastructure vs. AdHoc?
Channel?
Site name? (exact case and spelling)
Wep length and key? (exact)
etc.

[I have some NetGear cards that cannot be set on Win2003
because the setup utility doesn't support this "new" OS (after
nearly 9 months and lots of betas.) The cards work if you can
get them configured so go figure.]

You might also want to use the D-Link client utility to see if it recognizes
the wireless adapter.

Tom,
This is bad news.
On XP you can recover with a system restore.
I don't know how to recover on Windows 2000.
I believe the rule is "never install the wireless card
before you install the drivers"
My theory is that by uninstalling the drivers, you break
that rule.
I've got no sensible feedback as yet.
Andrew.

exactly the same problem with D-Link DWL520+ wireless
card, connecting to D-Link DI614+ router. Actually, have
also tried to connect to Netgear M814(?) router, and still
give the 'network cable unplugged' message.

I have the same problem with my Netgear MA101 USB wireless
adapter. If anyone has any information on how to solve
this probelm please help. I am convinced that the problem
is a result of the recent virus attacks. I have since
scrubbed my computer, but I still can not "see" the
wireless adapter.
