Can anyone help with my wireless KB?
I have the optical desktop set the mouse works fine but the keyboard does
nothing.
Both are recognised and installed by xp
Both show up as working in control panel
The microsoft software sees the keyboard and says battery 100% signal 100%
Both the keyboard and mouse work fine on another PC
I have tried new USB ports and the latest chipset software for the board.

If anyone has any ideas I would be grateful as I can't afford to tear
anymore hair out.

Hi William,

I had a similar situation with a Logitech combo
wireless. It turned out that during the initial installation,
a pass phrase is used to encrypt the communications
between the computer and the combo unit. If it gets
goofed, such as interrupting the installation, only
the mouse will work. You have to run a special utility
to reset the pass phrase.

So, try calling your manufactures tech support, if
it is the same issue, they should be able to walk you
through fixing it.

Thanks for the advice
Can i call Microsoft direct from the UK as it is their kit

I appreciate all the help but does anyone on here know how to reset the
encryption. I contacted microsoft support and have had 3 emails over 2 weeks.
First said to press the button on the receiver and keyboard, I replied saying
I had tried this before bothering them. I heard nothing for over a week(I
sent my reply a further 3 times) so I resubmitted my query, 2nd email said
not to open 2 queries with for the same problem. 3rd(same day) email said,
you guessed it, press the button on the keyboard and receiver!!!! I replied
saying this was the same email that the same technician had sent initially. I
have tried to remain calm and courteous in my replies, not heard anything
since last Friday.

Anyone help?
Thanks

Usually, a USB wireless mouse / keyboard / combo kit does the
encryption automatically when you press he receiver's "Reset" button
and the corresponding button on the mouse / keyboard.

I really wish that worked but it doesn't
The kit all works perfectly on another machine and the mouse is fine on this
one but nothing from the keyboard

thanks anyway

One "last" resort (I tried this before) is to clear out all USB
"devices" from Device Manager and at next reboot, XP should redetect
the drivers.

(Not complete "fool-proof.")

Yeah I tried all that.
Even stuck another USB card in and it detects the keyboard fine just nothing
happens when you press any keys. Have to say you guys have been more willing
to help than the official support
Cheers for all the efforts. Looks like buy a new set and stick this one on
Ebay

If you do so please indicate that the item *I*S* N*O*T working!!!

I've bought a 2,5" HDD for a friend of mine (used of course
but advertised as working) and it was broken. Never mind the
fact that the sender packaged the unit in such a way that it
couldn't be damaged. Since then I stay away from eBay and I
warn all my friend and co-workers.

The keyboard works perfectly on other PC's I wouldn't sell it if it was
broken I would send it back under warranty.

It is just no one at microsoft has bothered to get back to me after the
initial 'press the button on the receiver and keyboard' emails so I am stuck.
I can't take it back to the shop as it will work there it is just this
installation that has gone screwy

Sorry if I rubbed you the wrong way.

But what you describe it could be a hardware problem on the
main-board itself? That some controller went out? OK below
is your other reply and that you tried to use it with
another USB-card as well. But even then the signal should be
passed on to the USB-bus on the PC. I gather that all other
USB-devices will work?

Good luck as I'm at the end of my admitted limited knowledge
about how USB works :-/
