I've only had this wireless mouse for a year. For at least the last few
months, it has been acting up. If it sits idle for a few seconds, I have to
gently bang it onto the mouse pad to get it to work again. As soon as I let
it sit idle again, it fails to respond. I can pick it up, turn it over,
shake it, etc. and it does nothing. Give it a little tap onto the mouse pad
and it works again, until.....

Do I just have a bad mouse or are they all this way? I'm tempted to go back
to a corded mouse, it's a PITA.

precisely the reason I returned to a corded mouse. The infrared
type.........no balls.

See if it's under warranty still, if so you might be able to get Mickey to
replace it.

I suspect your banging it against a surface is helping an internal
pin-header with intermittent contact, make better contact. If you were to
disassemble the mouse and clean the contacts, perhaps slightly bend them
if possible, may help.
