I cannot get my home computers to communicate over my
wireless network. I'm using Windows XP. I ping the
other computer an get nothing. Should I disable the
firewall? Your thoughts?
The first step in network troubleshooting is to disable XP's built-in
firewall and un-install all other firewall programs.
If your network has a wireless broadband router, it protects your
computers from access by other Internet users, and there's no reason
to ever run XP's firewall. If your computers connect directly to the
Internet and get public IP addresses, disconnect the Internet
connection while the firewall is off.
